Todd James (born 1969, New York City) is an American artist whose current practice bridges contemporary painting, installations, and ceramic sculpture.
Emerging in the early 1980s as REAS within New York’s subway graffiti movement, James developed a visual language defined by saturated color, flattened space, and graphic precision. Since the 1990s, his work has evolved from iconic commercial design to a sustained fine-art practice, appearing in international exhibitions including the Venice Biennale (2001, 2015), ICA Philadelphia, Tate Liverpool, and the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. Across media, James combines cartoon-derived figuration with humor and pointed social observation.
In addition to these works, James has created a limited series of six (6) unique Ballpoint-pen drawings of cartoon tanks, each signed and dated (slightly irregular torn edges, 4” x 6” inches, ink on paper). These works are available for viewing and sale on the OOW shop website at shop.oowindow.com.
